Newark Police are investigating a shooting that occurred in Newark's North Ward on Saturday morning.
According to Newark Police officials, officers responded to a ShotsSpotter activation in the vicinity of 6th Avenue and North 13th Street at around 11:46 a.m. where they arrived to find evidence that a shooting occurred but no one was injured at that location.
According to residents in the area, the victim was reportedly entering his vehicle when a suspect approached and attempted to take his car at gunpoint.
The suspect fired at least one shot that penetrated the victim's car according to reports.
Police say they are actively investigating the motive behind the shooting.
