An Asbury Park man has been sentenced to life in prison plus an additional ten years for the 2023 murder of a 21-year-old man, according to a statement released by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.

Eddy Vilus, 33, received the sentence on Tuesday before Monmouth County Superior Court Judge Henry P. Butehorn. The sentence includes life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, along with an additional ten-year term carrying five years of parole ineligibility.

Vilus was convicted following a month-long trial in connection with the February 2, 2023, shooting death of 21-year-old God Allah.

According to prosecutors, Asbury Park police responded to reports of gunfire near Ridge and Springwood Avenues shortly after 2:15 p.m.

Officers found Allah suffering from a gunshot wound.
He was transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead less than 30 minutes later.

An investigation conducted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Bureau and the Asbury Park Police Department identified Vilus and 34-year-old Quamere M. Smith as suspects.

Authorities determined that Vilus was the gunman responsible for the fatal shooting.

Vilus was arrested during a traffic stop in Asbury Park on February 10, 2023, and was found in possession of a loaded handgun at the time of his arrest.

Smith was charged separately and later pleaded guilty to murder and conspiracy charges in October 2025.

The case was prosecuted by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
