The person charged in connection with a shooting that killed one person and injured another in Plainfield approximately five months ago has been located and arrested, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park and Plainfield Police Director Carl Riley jointly announced Thursday.
Isaiah Mayo-Givens, 23, is charged with first-degree murder, first-degree attempted murder, and two related weapons offenses.
According to police, at approximately 9:40 p.m. on December 26, 2016, 18-year-old Manuel Berrios of Plainfield and a second male, age 26, were struck by gunfire on the 600 block of East Third Street in Plainfield, according to the investigation.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital for emergency surgery, but Berrios did not survive.
An investigation involving the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force, the Plainfield Police Division, the Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and the Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit resulted in Mayo-Givens being identified as a suspect in the case.
State Superior Court Judge Regina Caulfield approved the filing of the criminal charges late on Wednesday, and Mayo-Givens was arrested at a residence in the Monmouth Junction section of South Brunswick (Middlesex County) without incident Thursday morning.
He was subsequently lodged in Union County Jail pending a first appearance.
