Armed Suspects on Dirt Bike Shoot Man in Newark's Central Ward

Newark

A brief but chaotic police pursuit of suspects on a dirt bike who were wanted for a shooting in Newark's Central Ward ended in an arrest late Wednesday evening.

The event unfolded around 7:10 p.m. in the area of Charlton and Muhammad Ali Avenue.

According to police, two suspects armed with a gun and occupying a dirt bike repeatedly fired at a man near the intersection before speeding away.

Officers rushed to the scene and found the victim suffering a non-fatal gunshot wound in his leg, according to police.

Multiple police units canvassing the area came across the suspects who began to speed away recklessly from officers and ride the dirtbike against traffic at high rates of speed.

Police say the pursuit touched off on a portion of Route 1&9 near Haynes Avenue, where the suspects crashed the bike then ran from the scene.

Officers captured both males after a brief pursuit.

The incident is under investigation by Newark Police.
