Paterson police said they arrested and charged an armed man who fled when officers approached him Saturday night, prompting a foot chase and search.
According to a preliminary investigation, the incident occurred in the vicinity of Pennington and Market streets shortly before 10:55 p.m.
Police were dispatched to the location to investigate a report of a man with handguns. The responding officers saw the suspect, but he fled on foot when the officers approached, police said.
Police said they caught up with the suspect and recovered a loaded handgun reported stolen.
Police reported no injuries.
