Police in Newark are investigating an apparent shoot out that sent three people to the hospital with serious injuries Friday evening.
The shooting occured shortly before 8:30 p.m. in the 700 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard near Spruce Street where several frantic calls of shots fired were reported. When police arrived to the scene, they found three people suffering from gunshot wounds. One of the victim's injuries was reported to be life-threatening.
Multiple shell casings littered the shooting scene while police roped off a large section to conduct their investigation. It was not immediately clear if the victims were shooting at each other or innocently struck during the gunfire.
All of the victims were taken to University Hospital's Trauma Center.
