Anti-Violence Operation Results in Recovery of Drugs and Four Arrests in Newark

Police in Newark are reporting the arrest of **Mr. Tamir Sampson, 36 and Mr. Shareef Berry, 31, both of Newark** for separate drug offenses along with Two juveniles were also arrested for receiving stolen property and resisting arrest, all as a part of the Division’s ongoing anti-violence operations conducted on Friday, September 28th.

According to police at 11:00 a.m., Newark Police Division detectives, based on information received through Newark’s confidential tip-line, received and executed a search warrant in the 100 block of Broad Street.

Authorities say police recovered 185 bags of heroin, 14 vials of cocaine and 18 baggies of marijuana as well as $184.00 in suspected drug proceeds.

Police arrested Sampson then charged him with three counts of possession of CDS, three counts of possession of CDS with the intent to distribute and three counts of possession of CDS within 500 feet of public housing.

Police say at around 1:00 p.m., detectives were patrolling near the Wynona Lipman Housing Complex when they observed what appeared to be a drug transaction.

Upon investigating, detectives found suspect Berry in possession of 23 bags of heroin which they confiscated as well as over $301.00 in drug proceeds. Police arrested Berry then charged with possession of CDS, possession with the intent to distribute and possession of CDS within 500 feet of public housing.

According to police, in the area of Hawthorne Avenue and Girard Place, at approximately 10:00 p.m., detectives observed a motor vehicle violation.

As officers pulled the car over, the occupants bailed from the vehicle and fled on foot.

Police say both juvenile males were apprehended a short time later and charged with receiving stolen property and resisting arrest.

These charges are merely accusations. Each suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
