Anonymous Tip Leads to Arrest of Man Wanted for Shooting at House in Newark

Newark

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced the arrest of Anthony Figueroa who was being sought by police for a shooting at a Tichenor Street residence on September 9th.

The shooting was reported yesterday at 2:02 am, when police responded to the report of shots fired in the area of Tichenor and Orchard streets.

Police said no injuries were reported during the incident.

Investigators believe the shooting stemmed from a previous dispute.

Detectives from the Police Division's Major Crimes Division were able to develop sufficient evidence to identify Anthony Figueroa as a suspect and secure a warrant for his arrest on charges of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for Unlawful Purposes.

Police arrested Figuero today after detectives from the Police Division’s Major Crimes Shooting Response Team received an anonymous tip that he could be found in a Seabury Street residence. Detectives responded and took him into custody without incidence.

Detectives continue to search for the handgun used during the shooting.

Director Ambrose stated, "I want to thank our residents who have been providing tips and helping us to make the city safer.

Their tips have helped us quickly identify, locate and remove wanted suspects from our streets.”
