ALERT: Irvington Man Wanted for Attempted Murder in Newark

Newark Police issued a warrant for the arrest of Mr. Wilma D. Cey, 28, of Irvington, for an attempted murder that occurred on Sunday, October 8, 2017.

According to a statement released by Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, at around 5:30 a.m., police responded to reports of a man shot in the area of Branford Place and Halsey Street following a quarrel with a suspect.

Director Ambrose said the suspect was accompanied by three other males during the incident when they arrived at Beth Israel Hospital for treatment of a gunshot wound then released a short time later.

Director Ambrose said detectives investigating this incident developed sufficient evidence to identify Wilma D. Cey as a suspect in this incident and obtained a warrant for his arrest on charges of Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder, Conspiracy, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

While police are actively searching for Wilma D. Cey, they seek the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from city streets.
