An early afternoon shooting in Newark had a man injured in the city's South Ward.
Gunfire rang out in the 300 block of Hawthorne Ave. shortly before 2 p.m. sending police to the scene where they located the victim suffering a gunshot wound to the leg.
The victim was transported to Newark Beth Israel Hospital where he was expected to survive.
A motive for the shooting is under investigation.
