Elizabeth

A 9-year-old boy was transported to the hospital after he was struck by a vehicle this morning in Elizabeth.

According to police, at approximately 7:23 a.m., the child's parent pulled up on the corner of Alina Street and Cross Avenue to drop the child off at the bus stop.

When the child exited the vehicle, he immediately ran into the street to board the bus, when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle police said.

The child was taken to University Hospital for precautionary measures.

According to authorities, the child does not remember if he lost consciousness but was up and moving when police arrived at the scene.

The child, however, complained of hip pain, but according to officials, parents have not informed police of any internal injuries that the boy may have suffered.

Summons were issued to the parent of the child for a bad inspection sticker and parking in the crosswalk unsafely.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the child has issued a summons for a tinted window.

Police said, because of the way the child exited the car and how the car was parked in the crosswalk, the driver was not at fault.

No summons were issued in connection with the accident.
