Last night the Howell Township Police Department responded to a report of a gas leak last night.
Upon arrival, police discovered a home with more than 50 cats and kittens living in deplorable conditions.
The Township’s Animal Control Division responded to the scene and ultimately transported the cats to local shelter.
Officials say all of the animals are being treated for fleas, upper respiratory infections, skin infections and internal parasites.
According to authorities, officials recovered pregnant cats, nursing mothers, kittens and adult cats; all of which are being evaluated and treated.
The individual living in the home has been arrested and will face animal cruelty charges.
