46-Year-Old Man Identified as Victim in Newark Store Shooting

Newark – Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Police Director Eugene Venable announced today that the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force and the Newark Police Department are investigating the fatal shooting of Mark Robinson, 46, of Newark.
 
Robinson was fatally shot yesterday while trying to rob the Neighborhood Deli Supermarket.
 
The preliminary investigation indicates that at approximately 8:30 p.m. yesterday Robinson walked into the store, located at 48 Irvine Turner Boulevard, pulled out a gun and pointed it at the store owner. The owner fired at Robinson. Robinson’s gun was found at the scene.
 
Robinson was rushed to University Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 10:10 p.m.
 
The investigation is active and ongoing. At this time no charges have been lodged against the owner, who legally possessed the gun he used to shoot Robinson. The owner’s name is not being released at this time.
 
The incident was captured by a store video camera but that video is not being released at this time.
