24-Year-Old Man Charged With Fatal Jersey City Shooting

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit has charged a 24-year-old man in connection with the fatal shooting of Tyreef Robinson in Jersey City on Saturday, March 4.

According to officials, Brandon Montague of Jersey City is charged with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon.

Officials say he was arrested on Thursday, March 9, 2023, in Newport News, Virginia, by the United States Marshals Service Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force in conjunction with the United States Marshals Service New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force.

He is being detained at the Newport News Jail as a Fugitive from Justice pending extradition to New Jersey. Shortly after 10:10 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a shooting in the area of 2 Bergen Avenue.

According to Police, responding Officers located a male victim – later identified as Tyreef Robinson, 34, of Jersey City – with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:27 p.m.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Officer determined the Cause of Death to be a Gunshot Wound to the Torso and Bilateral Lower Extremity and the Manner to be Homicide.
