16-Year-Old Shot, Wounded on Newark’s 12th Avenue

A 16-year-old male was injured in a shooting Thursday afternoon in Newark’s South Ward, according to Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr.

Police responded to reports of gunfire in the 100 block of 12th Avenue at approximately 1:03 p.m. on June 11. When officers arrived, they found evidence of the shooting, including a vehicle struck by gunfire and multiple spent shell casings at the scene.

 

Authorities later learned that a 16-year-old victim had arrived at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center seeking treatment for a gunshot wound. 

Officials said the teen’s injuries were not considered life-threatening, and he is reported to be in stable condition.

 

The circumstances surrounding the shooting remain under active investigation.
