Detectives for the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office are questioning the driver of a vehicle who they believe struck a teenage boy on a busy roadway in Irvington Township then drove away from the scene.
The 13-year-old boy is now at a local hospital fighting for his life and in critical condition.
According to a preliminary investigation, at approximately noon, police were dispatched to 1133 Grove Street to investigate reports of a pedestrian struck by a car.
Upon arrival, EMS units were requested to rushed to the scene after the severely injured boy was found lying in the street.
Police said the driver fled the scene but was located this evening.
There were no other injuries reported.
