Police are investigating a late-night shooting that left one person critically injured in the city Tuesday night.

According to preliminary emergency dispatch information, officers responded at approximately 10:37 p.m. to reports of shots fired in the area of East 26th Street and 11th Avenue.
Authorities indicated that ShotSpotter technology detected 11 rounds, and officers recovered shell casings at the scene.
Moments later, police located a person suffering from gunshot wounds in an alley near 440 East 26th Street.
Officers immediately began life-saving efforts, with CPR administered before the victim was transported to a nearby hospital. The victim’s condition was not immediately available.
During the investigation, officers took one suspect into custody in the area of East 28th Street and 8th Avenue.
A handgun was also recovered, according to preliminary reports.

The shooting remains under investigation by the Paterson Police Department. Additional information, including the identities of those involved and the circumstances leading up to the incident, has not yet been released.
