A powerful lightning strike injured approximately 13 people in Jackson Township on Wednesday evening, prompting a swift emergency response and life-saving efforts by first responders.

According to Jackson Township Police Chief Matthew Kunz, the incident occurred just after 7:00 p.m. on the 600 block of Perrineville Road at the Black Knight Bow Benders Archery Club.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene after receiving reports of multiple people being struck by lightning during a sudden storm.

Chief Kunz reported that CPR was being administered to at least one individual. That individual has died. The conditions of the remaining victims were not immediately available, and authorities have not yet released the identities of those involved.

The area was temporarily secured as first responders worked to assess the scene and provide medical assistance.

It remains unclear what the group was doing at the time of the strike or whether the lightning hit directly or indirectly.

This rare and dangerous weather event is a reminder of the unpredictable power of nature, especially during summer storms. Residents are urged to take shelter indoors during thunderstorm warnings and to avoid open fields, trees, and water during lightning activity.
