According to a White House release, The First Lady will join students at Philip’s Academy Charter School to participate in planting their school garden Thursday afternoon.
Philip’s Academy, founded in 1989 as a private school, has a program called EcoSPACES Education that teaches students how food is grown and the importance of healthy eating. The EcoSpaces Education program connect students to food, how it’s grown, and how it nourishes their bodies in order to empower them to make healthy choices throughout their lives.
Back in in 2009, the First Lady planted a vegetable garden on the South Lawn of White House to initiate a national conversation around the health and well being of the country.
As part of promoting diverse gardens, she will tour several locations including Wisconsin, Colorado, Louisiana, and New Jersey.
