An investigation is underway into a crash that killed a 57-year-old Jackson man this morning in Jersey City.
Police responded to Routes 1&9 and Duncan Avenue shortly after 6 a.m., for a head-on collision that involved a 2003 Hyundai Elantra and a box truck, initially reported as a tractor trailer.
First responders arriving to the scene found the victim trapped inside the vehicle suffering serious injuries.
The victim, later identified as a 57-year-old Scott J. Smith, of Jackson, was extricated from the car at 6:13 a.m. and pronounced dead shortly after at Jersey City Medical Center-Barnabas Health.
The driver of the tractor trailer remained at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
