A set of overnight armed robberies that happened in the city's West Ward has police searching for suspects.
Police responded to the area of South Orange Ave. at South 18th Street shortly before 1 a.m. on reports of an armed robbery in progress. Units arriving to the scene were met by a female victim that reported being robbed then assaulted at that location.
The woman told authorities that a black male suspect (who was armed with a weapon) approached demanding cash and personal possessions. According to the victim, while attempting to hand over the items, the suspect reportedly struck her with the weapon, forcing a bus card and some Blistex from her hand.
The suspect fled the scene in a silver two-door vehicle possibly a Honda. The victim suffered minor injuries.
Shortly before 1:15 a.m., reports of an armed robbery that happened in the 300 block of 13th Ave. had police put out an alert for a 4-door grey Mazda occupied by two black males who committed and armed robbery of at least one victim in the area.
There were no injuries reported.
