Police Officers Among Eleven Injured in Separate Newark Car Crashes

Newark first responders and University Hospital staff were put to the test overnight after several overnight car crashes set them in motion for life saving rescue operations and hospitalization.

First, a police vehicle that collided with a pole in the area of 19th Street and 18th Ave. at around 10 p.m. had rescue crews rush to the scene where two Newark Police Officers were immediately transported to University Hospital.

The officers injuries were not reported to be life threatening and it is not immediately known if the officers were following a vehicle during the time of the crash. (Well wishes to these Finest)

A crash that happened at around midnight in the city's North Ward sent first responders to the area of Highland Ave. and Park Ave. where they arrived to find two victims injured. The pair were transported to University Hospital where staff treated non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

From the city's North Ward to the area of Nye Ave. and Fabyan Place in Newark's South Ward is where first responder arrived to the scene of a crash that happened at around 2 a.m.

Crews found three victims suffering non-life threatening injuries at that location. University Hospital received these patients who were all expected to be ok. One person at the scene of the crash reportedly refused medical attention.

Just when you think hard working first responder crews could take a coffee break, a report of a crash with serious injuries sent them rushing to the city's downtown shortly before 3:30 a.m.

Units arrived to the area of West Market Street and Wickliff Street shortly before 3:30 a.m. where they found two victims partially trapped in a vehicle, suffering injuries. Both victims were transported to University Hospital with one of them suffering serious injuries.

**UPDATE 5 a.m. Two additional victims from the Wickliff crash was transported to University Hospital. This brings the total Newark crash injuries to 11**

All of the overnight crashes are being investigated by The Newark Police Department.
