Newark Police Charge Two with Weapon Offenses

Between Monday night into Tuesday morning police announced the arrest of two people, now facing weapons and drug charges.

Monday night, officers were approached by a passerby in the area of Jefferson and Downing streets who reported seeing someone with a gun.

Police located the man in the area of Ferry Street where a foot pursuit ensued, Glover said.

Assisting officers, retrieved a loaded .38-caliber handgun, which was thrown by Kareem Stanley, 20, as he attempted to flee.

Stanley was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and other offenses.

The second arrest occurred following a traffic stop near South Orange Avenue and Smith Street sometime around 12:15 a.m, added police.

After patrolling officers spotted a motorist not wearing a seatbelt, pulled the car over.

Kenny Allen, was placed under arrest and consented to a search of the car, where police found s small bag of marijuana in the center console and a loaded .38-caliber handgun.

Allen was charged with weapons offenses including unlawful possession of a handgun along with other weapons offenses, as well as narcotics offenses. He was also issued motor-vehicle summonses.
