Sheriff Armando Fontoura announced that a Newark man was arrested this morning after he allegedly walked into a county court complex with a gun.
According to a release issued by Sheriff Armando Fontoura, Leon Mack, 55, was arrested and charged with various weapons charges and resisting an arrest after arriving at the Essex County Hall of Records this morning with a gun in his backpack.
According to the release, security observed a defaced, fully loaded, .25 caliber, semi-automatic handgun inside a backpack as it passed through the building's x-ray security machine.
Immediately after Mack realized officers noticed the weapon he attempted to flee but was quickly apprehended.
He is being held in the Essex County Jail on $100,000 cash bond, officials said.
