An overturned vehicle that ignited into flames had police remove at least one injured occupant from the car early this morning in the city's West Ward.
The crash happened in the 500 block of Sanford Ave. near Cliff Street at around 2 a.m. when police arrived to the scene to find a car overturned and a person inside of the vehicle that was engulfed by fire.
The victim was transported by EMS to University Hospital suffering critical injuries.
A short distance down Sanford Ave., rescue crews found a second overturn vehicle with at least one occupant suffering serious injuries. This victim was also transported to University Hospital suffering serious injuries. The victim was removed from the vehicle shortly before crews arrived to the scene
The crash left about 5 cars damaged at scene.

It is not immediately clear if a pursuit was underway during the time of the crash.
An investigation is underway by the Newark Police Department.
