Police Investigate Armed Robbery Report of Family Dollar Store in Newark; Attempted Robbery of 99 Cents Store

Authorities in Newark are investigating an armed robbery of a Family Dollar store and an attempted armed robbery of a 99 cents store that happened in the city. 

Police responded to the Family Dollar Store located on Springfield Ave. and South 10th Street at around 1:45 p.m. where they began a search for a black male who was armed with a dark colored handgun that he used to rob the store. 

The suspect reportedly pointed the weapon at the cashier and ordered cash from the register before fleeing the scene. The man was last seen wearing a blue shirt, red shorts, and sunglasses. 

Shortly before 12:30 p.m. at a 99 cents store located in the 100 block of West Kinney Street, police responded to that location on reports of a robbery where they began a search for two teenage boys who entered the store and reportedly attempted to commit a robbery. 

The suspects were reportedly shirtless and wearing long pants hanging from their waist.

There were no injuries reported in either incident.
