We are waking up to unusually mild temperatures across Newark and the North Jersey region as we close out the workweek with some much-needed rain.

Good morning, New Jersey! Happy Friday!
It is currently 66 degrees in downtown Newark, and we’re expecting a soggy start to the day, with periods of rain continuing into the afternoon.
After an 18-day dry stretch, Thursday finally brought some welcome rainfall to the region. While we didn’t receive as much as we had hoped, it was certainly a start, and today’s showers should provide additional relief from the recent dry conditions.
If you’re heading out this morning, keep that umbrella handy and allow some extra travel time.
Roads could be particularly slick as rain mixes with oil and other residue that accumulated during the extended dry period.
Temperatures are fairly mild across the Garden State this morning, with Somerville and Toms River at 64 degrees, Paterson at 62, Sussex County at 57 and Trenton at 64.
According to the National Weather Service, rain and possibly a thunderstorm are expected before 1 p.m., followed by periods of rain through the afternoon.
Temperatures will reach around 68 degrees, with a 90 percent chance of precipitation. Rainfall totals could range from three-quarters of an inch to one inch.
Conditions should gradually improve tonight, with rain chances decreasing during the evening and skies beginning to clear. Overnight temperatures will fall to around 53 degrees.
It’s a wet finish to the workweek, New Jersey, but we certainly need the rain.
Have a great Friday, stay dry and travel safely!
