Authorities in Jersey City are investigating an early Wednesday morning crash that left a dump truck overturned, damaged roadway barriers and spilled debris across portions of Tonnelle Avenue.

According to preliminary emergency reports, crews responded around 12:35 a.m. November 4 to the area of 770 Tonnelle Avenue, near North Street, where they found an overturned dump truck.

Emergency responders reported that a dog was inside the truck’s cab. A fluid spill was also observed at the scene.

Officials said the crash caused significant damage to the concrete barriers separating the northbound and southbound lanes.

A large amount of debris from the truck reportedly spilled across the southbound lanes, prompting emergency personnel to request assistance from the Department of Transportation.

The condition of the driver and the dog was not immediately available.

Motorists traveling through the area may encounter delays as crews work to remove debris and address the roadway damage.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
