Emergency crews rushed to a serious crash on Interstate 280 in Newark Wednesday afternoon after a tractor-trailer struck a concrete median barrier, leaving the front of the truck partially hanging over the roadway below.

Initial reports say, the crash occurred near mile marker 13.1 in the eastbound lanes of I-280, prompting a response from firefighters, rescue personnel, and hazardous materials teams.
Images from the scene show the tractor-trailer’s cab extending over the concrete barrier, with debris scattered across the roadway.
Emergency reports indicate that several people were transported to area hospitals. The extent of their injuries has not been confirmed.
Hazardous materials crews were also called to address a fuel leak from the truck’s saddle tank. Initial reports indicated that the leaking fuel had not reached nearby storm drains.
Authorities requested specialized rescue equipment and a heavy-duty tow truck to assist with the recovery operation.
The crash caused significant traffic delays in both directions of I-280, with congestion extending onto surrounding Newark streets.
The circumstances leading to the crash remain unclear, and additional information regarding the injured individuals was not immediately available.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area while emergency operations continue.
