A Newark man has been convicted of murder and weapons offenses in connection with the deadly shooting of a 60-year-old man following an argument on a city street in 2023.

According to information released by Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens II, Antwine King, 35, of Newark, was found guilty on October 20, 2026, in the shooting death of Vincent Anderson, also of Newark.
Authorities said the shooting occurred on October 22, 2023, near the intersection of Clinton Place and Renner Avenue.
During a verbal dispute between the two men, King pulled out a handgun and shot Anderson once in the back, killing him, prosecutors said.
King then fled the area on foot, prompting an investigation that ultimately led authorities to Texas.
Six days after the shooting, members of the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended King in Laredo, Texas.
Following a trial before Superior Court Judge Michael L. Ravin, jurors deliberated for three days before returning guilty verdicts on first-degree murder, unlawful possession of a handgun and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose.
Assistant Prosecutors Logan Teisch and Melanie Laprade presented the case on behalf of the state.
Following the verdict, Teisch credited detectives assigned to the Essex County Homicide Task Force, responding Newark police officers and the U.S. Marshals Service for their work investigating the killing and locating King.
King now faces sentencing in connection with the murder conviction. A sentencing date was not provided in the prosecutor's announcement.
