A 49-year-old Toms River man has pleaded guilty to charges stemming from a shooting in Lakewood Township that left a man wounded in both arms.
According to information released by Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer, Million Brown-Bey pleaded guilty on October 22, 2026, before Superior Court Judge Kimarie Rahill to aggravated assault and a weapons offense.
Authorities said the shooting occurred on January 7, 2024, when Lakewood police responded to reports of gunfire near the West Gate Shopping Complex.
Shortly afterward, a 27-year-old man arrived at Hackensack Meridian Health Ocean Medical Center in Brick Township suffering from gunshot wounds to both arms. He was treated and later released.
Investigators determined that the victim had driven to a residence on Hillside Avenue when an individual approached his vehicle and fired at least one shot, striking him.
Despite his injuries, the victim managed to drive himself to the hospital.
A joint investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and Lakewood police identified Brown-Bey as the shooter.
He was arrested on January 11, 2024, and has remained in the Ocean County Jail since his apprehension.
Under the plea agreement, prosecutors will seek a 10-year state prison sentence for aggravated assault, subject to the No Early Release Act, along with a concurrent 10-year sentence on the weapons charge that includes five years of parole ineligibility.
Brown-Bey is scheduled to be sentenced on December 18, 2026.
