NJ Wakes Up to Calmer Skies After Sunday’s Soaking Rain, Sunshine Returns for Columbus Day

Newark

New Jersey is waking up to calmer conditions this Columbus Day morning after a miserable second half of the weekend brought soaking rain, gusty winds, and gloomy skies across much of the region.

Good morning, Jersey! If you’re heading out early this Monday, we’re starting the day at a comfortable 55 degrees in downtown Newark, and thankfully, we’re expecting a much better day than what we experienced Sunday.

After hours of steady rainfall kept many residents indoors, the region is finally beginning to dry out. Some areas received significant rainfall, including approximately two inches in Caldwell and an inch and a half in Newark.

Although isolated fog and a few lingering showers remain possible in parts of South Jersey, most of the state is looking forward to improving conditions throughout the day.

Around New Jersey this morning, temperatures are fairly consistent, with Morris County reporting 54 degrees, Somerville at 55, Trenton and Belmar both near 54, and Hillside coming in at 57 degrees.

According to the National Weather Service, skies will begin mostly cloudy before gradually becoming sunny, with afternoon temperatures climbing to a pleasant 73 degrees.

North winds will range from 7 to 10 mph, with occasional gusts reaching 20 mph.

Tonight, expect mostly clear skies with temperatures dropping to around 57 degrees. Northwest winds near 6 mph will become calm during the evening.

Whether you’re heading to work, enjoying the Columbus Day holiday, or simply getting outside after Sunday’s washout, today offers a welcome opportunity to enjoy some sunshine.

Have a great Monday, New Jersey!
