A two-vehicle collision in downtown Newark Friday afternoon left one car overturned and sent a driver to the hospital, authorities said.

According to information released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, the crash occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 9, at the intersection of University Avenue and Market Street.

Authorities said the impact caused one of the vehicles to overturn. The driver managed to escape the overturned vehicle before being transported to University Hospital for evaluation.

The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene and reported no injuries.

In a separate incident just minutes earlier, at approximately 3:24 p.m., emergency responders were called to South Orange Avenue and Littleton Avenue after a man riding an electric bicycle collided with a vehicle.

The e-bike rider was transported to University Hospital for treatment and was reportedly in stable condition.

Police said the driver involved in that collision remained at the scene.

Authorities have not released additional details regarding the circumstances surrounding either crash.
