We are waking up to another dreary and wet start to the week here in Newark and across the North Jersey region, but there is finally some good news: this stubborn nor’easter is beginning to loosen its grip, and conditions should improve later today.
Good morning, New Jersey, and welcome to Monday.
At around 4:30 a.m., temperatures are sitting near 58 degrees in downtown Newark, with light rain continuing to fall.
After a weekend filled with heavy rain, strong winds and flooding concerns, this storm certainly feels like the one that never wants to end.
The system affecting our region is a nor’easter, and Monday morning is the final round for North Jersey.
The rain won’t be nearly as heavy as what we experienced Sunday, but expect another dreary, damp start before conditions gradually improve.
According to the National Weather Service, showers are expected mainly before 11 a.m., followed by patchy fog between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
The high will reach around 64 degrees, with north winds of 10 to 13 mph and gusts as high as 24 mph. The chance of precipitation is 80 percent, with another tenth to a quarter-inch of rain possible.
So, if we can hang in there through the morning, we should see a much better afternoon than anything we experienced over the weekend.
The rain will begin moving out, allowing North Jersey to finally start drying out.
Tonight, patchy fog is possible after 11 p.m. Otherwise, skies will become partly cloudy with a low around 56 degrees. Winds will become light during the evening.
Keep the umbrella and rain jacket handy for one more morning, New Jersey. We’re finally seeing the end of this one.
