A terrifying dog attack left three members of a Sayreville family injured Saturday evening, forcing responding police officers to shoot the animal to stop the attack.
The incident happened at approximately 7:22 p.m. on September 26 after Sayreville Police received a 911 distress call from a man reporting that his girlfriend, mother and stepfather were being attacked by their dog.
When officers arrived, they encountered the attack and discharged their firearms at the dog to prevent anyone else from being injured.
The three victims were rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, where officials said they were in stable condition and receiving treatment for their injuries.
The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office said the incident remains under active investigation.
