Newark Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect accused of following and violently attacking a woman as she walked home from a bus stop.
According to information released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., the incident occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m. September 18.
Police said the woman had just gotten off work and was walking home when she noticed a man watching and following her.
When the victim reached her apartment in the 200 block of Leslie Street, authorities said the suspect approached her from behind.
When she turned around, he allegedly repeatedly punched her in the face and body while telling her to be quiet.
The victim fought back and screamed, causing the suspect to run from the area, police said.
Authorities described the suspect as a Black male with locs who was wearing a black tank top and blue shorts at the time of the attack.
