We are waking up to the calm before what could be a rainy and downright miserable weekend across Newark and the North Jersey region, with a coastal storm expected to begin impacting our area later today.
Good morning, Jersey, and welcome to Friday!
We’ve made it to the end of the workweek, but it’s pretty chilly outside this morning. We’re starting at 57 degrees in downtown Newark, with breezy conditions making it feel even cooler.
The weather will become increasingly unsettled as we head into the weekend, with periods of rain and gusty winds expected as the coastal system moves into the region.
Several rounds of rain could also create flooding concerns, particularly in areas that typically experience poor drainage.
Our friends along the Jersey Shore should also keep a close eye on conditions as the storm moves along the coast.
Around New Jersey this morning, temperatures are at 47 degrees in Sussex County, 52 in Morristown, 50 in Hackensack, 56 in Irvington and 54 down in Toms River.
According to the National Weather Service, today will be mostly cloudy with a high near 72. North winds of 14 to 17 mph could gust as high as 32 mph.
Tonight, rain chances increase as clouds thicken. The low will be around 58 degrees, with north winds near 21 mph and gusts potentially reaching 37 mph. Rain becomes more likely toward daybreak Saturday.
So enjoy the dry conditions while we have them, Jersey. Keep the jacket nearby today, and prepare the umbrellas and rain gear for the weekend.
