EAST NEWARK, NJ — Firefighters from multiple departments are battling a raging four-alarm fire that tore through a three-story home in East Newark Wednesday afternoon.
The fire broke out shortly before noon in the 40s block of President Street, where arriving crews encountered heavy flames throughout the three-story structure.
As conditions intensified, additional alarms were struck, bringing mutual aid from fire departments across Hudson and Essex counties. Harrison firefighters are among the crews assisting at the scene.
Preliminary reports indicate at least one person suffered burn injuries, while another reportedly suffered smoke inhalation. The extent of their injuries has not yet been confirmed.
Firefighters are also working to protect neighboring homes as flames reportedly spread into at least one exposure.
The fire is burning in close proximity to Tops Diner, and motorists should expect emergency activity and possible traffic disruptions in the area.
