Newark Police are asking for the public’s help identifying a man accused of assaulting and pepper-spraying a woman aboard an NJ Transit bus earlier this week.
According to information released by Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., the incident occurred at approximately 7:15 p.m. on September 14, 2026, aboard the No. 25 bus near Bergen Street and Springfield Avenue.
Officials said the bus stopped abruptly, causing the woman to accidentally bump into a child who was accompanying the suspect as he walked past her.
Police said the woman apologized, but the man allegedly became angry and began yelling at her before punching her in the face and head.
The victim attempted to defend herself, leading to a struggle. During the confrontation, authorities said the suspect pepper-sprayed the woman in the face before fleeing the scene.
Newark Police officers responded, and EMS personnel rinsed the victim’s eyes before transporting her to University Hospital for additional treatment.
Authorities have released an image of the suspect and are asking anyone who recognizes him or has information about the incident to contact Newark Police.
