A brother and sister are dead following an apparent murder-suicide Wednesday morning at a home in Pennsauken, authorities said.
According to a statement released by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Pennsauken Police were dispatched to a residence in the 4400 block of Bethel Avenue at approximately 9:01 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting and an armed man inside the home.
When officers arrived, they found 59-year-old Pennsauken resident Janet Camacho suffering from a gunshot wound on the front steps of the residence.
Camacho was rushed to Cooper University Hospital, where authorities said she was pronounced dead at approximately 9:38 a.m.
Police secured the area around the home while members of the Camden County Sheriff’s Emergency Response Team were called to the scene.
At approximately 10:37 a.m., officers located Camacho’s brother, 60-year-old Daniel Lopez of Pennsauken, dead inside the residence from what authorities described as a self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Pennsauken Police Chief Phil Olivo said detectives are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide.
Authorities said the investigation remains active and no additional information is being released at this time.
