We hope you’re starting the day off well. If you’re preparing to head out for Sunday morning worship or other activities, make sure you bring the umbrella.
We’re waking up to a rainy, humid and unsettled morning across Newark and the North Jersey region.
It is currently 71 degrees in downtown Newark as rain begins to fall, with heavier downpours possible in some locations.
The concern this morning will be periods of heavy rainfall that could lead to localized flooding and difficult travel, particularly in poor-drainage areas.
According to the National Weather Service, showers and possibly a thunderstorm are expected before 11 a.m., followed by a chance of additional showers through about 2 p.m.
Some storms could produce heavy rainfall.
The chance of precipitation is 90 percent, with between a half-inch and three-quarters of an inch of rain possible. Temperatures are expected to reach the lower 80s this afternoon.
Conditions improve later today, with partly cloudy skies tonight and temperatures falling to around 67 degrees.
Take it slow on wet roads, never attempt to drive through flooded streets, and keep the umbrella close this Sunday morning.
