A Cumberland County man was sentenced to five years in state prison after authorities said he stole more than $75,000 worth of Amazon packages while working for a delivery contractor.
According to information released by prosecutors, Akeem Johnson, 43, of Bridgeton, was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Russell A. DePersia following his guilty plea to identity theft.
Court records showed that Johnson worked for a third-party contractor responsible for transporting Amazon packages to U.S. Postal Service facilities.
Authorities said Johnson failed to deliver several pallets of packages and used a co-worker’s identification to gain access to an Amazon facility in Logan Township, where he took possession of additional packages.
The stolen merchandise was valued at more than $75,000.
Johnson received the five-year prison term under a plea agreement. He was also sentenced concurrently in connection with two separate Cumberland County cases.
