Good morning, Jersey! We are waking up to a humid start across Newark and the North Jersey region after heavy rainfall moved through during the overnight hours.
We’ve made it to the close of the week, and for those preparing to get an early start on their Labor Day holiday weekend travel, conditions are looking much better as we move through the day.
It is currently around 71 degrees in downtown Newark, with temperatures in the low 70s across much of the region. Morristown is around 72 degrees, Somerville is near 70, and Toms River is waking up to approximately 74 degrees.
After last night’s stormy weather, today should be relatively quiet. Sunshine will break through, temperatures will warm into the 80s, and it could turn into a pretty nice day for those getting an early start on the holiday weekend or even heading down to the Jersey Shore.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m., followed by another slight chance after 2 p.m.
Otherwise, skies will be mostly sunny with a high near 85 degrees and northwest winds of 3 to 8 mph. The chance of rain is just 20 percent.
Tonight will be partly cloudy and comfortable, with temperatures dropping to around 66 degrees.
