Authorities request the public’s help identifying suspects who took a victim’s catalytic converter while using a BMW on August 27.
Newark Public Safety Director Emanuel Miranda, Sr., stated that the victim told police that he parked his 2011 Hyundai at approximately 8:45 a.m. on Quitman Street between West Kinney Street and Montgomery Street.
When he returned around noon, the victim realized his catalytic converter had been stolen after hearing a loud noise coming from his car, according to Newark officials.
According to surveillance video, Newark Police said the suspects pulled up to the Hyundai in a black BMW Series 5.
According to Newark officials, a passenger exited the car and cut the catalytic converter from the victim’s vehicle.
The suspects then drove away, heading southbound on Quitman Street, and turned left onto Montgomery Street toward Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Newark officials said.
