We are waking up to cloudy and relatively cool conditions with a light breeze across Newark and the North Jersey region early Monday morning.
Good morning, Jersey, and welcome to the start of a new week!
As of around 4:30 a.m., it is 73 degrees in downtown Newark, with generally quiet weather across the region.
Temperatures are cooler farther north and west, with 68 degrees in Sussex and Morristown, 67 in Somerville, 70 in Trenton and 66 degrees in Passaic County.
Keep the umbrella nearby today. There will be opportunities for spotty showers across the region, but we are not expecting a complete washout.
Temperatures should climb toward 80 degrees, but it does not appear that we’ll get much beyond that.
According to the National Weather Service, skies will remain mostly cloudy today with a high near 80 and light, variable winds.
Tonight brings a better opportunity for wet weather. Showers and thunderstorms are possible before 11 p.m., followed by showers likely — and possibly a thunderstorm — between 11 p.m. and 2 a.m.
The chance of precipitation increases to 60%, with an overnight low around 69.
Most rainfall amounts should remain below a tenth of an inch, although thunderstorms could produce locally higher totals.
So, Jersey, grab the umbrella just in case, but don’t cancel those Monday plans. Spotty showers may pop up, but much of the day should remain manageable.
