Six people were displaced after a fire broke out inside a residence in Jersey City early Saturday morning.
Firefighters were called to 259 Union Street shortly before 2 a.m., where crews encountered heavy fire on the second floor of the building.
As firefighters advanced hose lines, officials reported that flames had extended into the cockloft area.
At least two lines were placed into operation as crews worked to knock down the main body of the fire and open portions of the structure to check for additional extension.
A primary search of the building was reported negative, with no immediate injuries indicated.
The fire was placed under control shortly before 2 a.m.
The American Red Cross was requested to assist three adults and three children who were displaced by the blaze.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
