One Dead, Two Seriously Injured in Highway Crash in NJ

A serious crash in Burlington County left one person dead and two others injured Sunday afternoon after a vehicle reportedly struck a utility pole and brought down wires in Mansfield Township.

 

Emergency crews were dispatched to the area of Route 206 and Mansfield Road shortly before 1 p.m. following reports of a crash with occupants trapped.

 

According to preliminary information, first responders arrived to find a heavily damaged vehicle, a utility pole and wires down, and one person who had reportedly been ejected during the crash.

 

Firefighters conducted an extrication operation to free at least one trapped occupant.

 

Officials reported three patients in connection with the crash. 

 

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, while two others required advanced life support and were transported by ground ambulance to area hospitals for treatment.

 

Authorities shut down the northbound lanes of Route 206 while emergency crews worked at the scene, and the New Jersey Department of Transportation was notified of the closure.

 

A fatal accident investigation team was requested to assist in determining the cause of the crash.

 

The circumstances leading up to the collision remain under investigation.
