An e-bike rider was killed Saturday afternoon following a collision with a vehicle in Franklin Township, authorities announced.

According to information released by Franklin Township Public Safety Director Lloyd N. Fredericks, police were dispatched to the intersection of Route 27 and South Middlebush Road at approximately 1:28 p.m. on August 15 after receiving reports of a crash involving what was initially reported as a motorcycle and a car.

Officers arrived and found an adult male suffering from serious injuries.

Emergency medical personnel from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital responded and transported the victim to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

RLS Media has learned that a preliminary investigation determined the man was operating an e-bike southbound on Route 27 when he collided with a vehicle that was making a left turn from northbound Route 27 onto South Middlebush Road.

Fredericks extended condolences to the victim’s family and urged both motorists and e-bike riders to remain alert and follow traffic laws as e-bike use continues to increase in the community.

Police said the circumstances surrounding the crash remain under active investigation.

No additional information regarding the victim or driver was immediately released.
