UPDATE: Man Killed in Jersey City Shooting

Hudson County authorities are investigating a fatal shooting that left a 38-year-old Jersey City man dead inside an apartment Tuesday evening.

According to information released by Hudson County Prosecutor Wayne Mello, Jersey City Police were notified shortly after 8 p.m. of an injured man inside an apartment at 200 Cornelison Avenue.

 

Officers arrived and found the victim, identified as Omar Smith, 38, of Jersey City, unresponsive and suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

 

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Authorities said the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.

 

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Jersey City Police Department are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

 

Officials confirmed that investigators have identified a person of interest, but no arrests or additional details regarding that individual have been announced.
