An Elizabeth police officer was injured Sunday evening after reportedly being assaulted during an incident at The Mills at Jersey Gardens.
According to preliminary information, the incident occurred shortly before 7:30 p.m. at the mall, located at 651 Kapkowski Road.
Emergency reports indicated that the officer requested urgent assistance while allegedly being assaulted and told dispatchers that he was bleeding heavily.
Multiple police units rushed to the scene, where authorities reportedly took one person into custody.
The injured officer was treated by EMS for a reported laceration to the head. The extent of the officer’s injuries and whether hospitalization was required were not immediately available.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding what led to the confrontation or any charges that may have been filed against the person detained.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
